Daryl Roll, P.E.

As Astro Pak Corporation's Science and Quality Officer, Daryl Roll leads the development and management of corporate technology objectives, safety and training programs, and monitoring of government compliance requirements. Additionally, Daryl serves as the primary senior technical advisor to clients and employees for corrosion, surface chemistry and stainless steel passivation. Prior to joining Astro Pak, Daryl served as Division Chemist and Division Engineer at Halliburton Company. Mr. Roll has over 30 years of experience in chemical processing, including the design of process cleaning equipment, chemical process technology, and precision cleaning of ultra-high purity systems. He is a participant on the ASME BPE Subcommittees for Surface Finish and Materials of Construction requirements. His is also a leading contributor for the Rouge and Passivation Task Groups. Daryl is also an active member of ISPE, Los Angeles, and conducts seminar presentations and training programs. Mr. Roll has been published in MICRO and Chemical Engineering for his papers on passivation and rouge control. Daryl holds a B.A. in Chemistry and Earth Science from the California State University of Fullerton and a Professional Engineer's license from the State of California. 

 

Brent Ekstrand, PhD

Brent serves as the corporate Director of Cleanroom Operations where he is responsible for all aspects, including both technical and financial, of precision cleaning and passivation services from our in-house cleanrooms. As one of Astro Pak's research scientists, Brent has explored the efficacy of existing and novel passivation chemistries and cleaning agents. Brent's fourteen years of experience with Astro Pak Corporation gives him a solid technical background to serve as a key technical advisor for complex cleanroom, aerospace, and bio-pharmaceutical projects. He has served on an advisory panel, comprised of industry leaders and NASA personnel, that spearheaded the effort to update the Kennedy Space Center’s main cleaning and validation document, as well as provided consultation services on the subject of precision cleaning for JPL / NASA. Dr. Ekstrand also conducts industry presentations, and has co-authored technical papers on subjects including precision cleaning and passivation. The most recent paper Dr. Ekstrand has contributed to is a study of the efficacy of passivation using a gel-based, green formulation. He received his doctorate from the University of the Pacific.”

 

Patrick Banes

Patrick Banes is currently the Northeast Technical Sales Manager for Astro Pak Corporation where he is responsible for sales and market development in various industries such as biopharmaceutical, aerospace & defense, oil & gas, and food & beverage. Prior to joining Astro Pak, Pat was the Vice President of Business Development for Oakley Specialized Services, Inc. During his 26 years of experience, Pat has made numerous presentations on the subject of passivation of stainless steel for the AICHE, ASME BPE, ASTM, IIR, IQPC, ISPE, PDA and other technical education organizations. His derouging and passivation technical papers have been published in Microcontamination, Pharmaceutical Engineering and Ultrapure Water magazines. Pat is a member of the ASME BPE Subcommittee for Surface Finish, participating in the Rouge and Passivation Task Groups. He is also a member of the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers (ISPE), North Jersey Chapter, and participating in a group assigned to revive the current ISPE Water and Steam Baseline Guide. Pat holds a B.A. in Zoology with a minor in Chemistry from the University of New Hampshire. He has also completed inorganic chemistry studies at Rutgers University.
